Indigenous Traditional Medicine Is On The Rise
What is Indigenous Medicine, Why do we need it?
Indigenous traditional medicine is a term that describes the various herbal, spiritual, mental, and emotional healing practices of native communities around the world. Most of these practices are rooted in environmental awareness and connection as well as traditional ceremonies. The main factor that separates Indigenous Medicine from Western Medicine is the healing technology! The healing methods are rooted in knowledge of the body, mind, spirit, mathematics and science, This means examining the body in terms of energy, physical examinations, and intuitive gifts and abilities. The people act as the technology that modern medicine mimics!
In indigenous civilization there is a “knowing”. Most of the time this “knowing” is passed down through generations as gifts and are thrusted into action by plants, ancestors, elders or needs of the community if the gifts are lying dormant in the body. There usually aren’t extensive books about this type of information. There are rites of passage and lots of hands on training in the bush (forests/jungles) that leads to initiation ceremonies of the practitioner. This gift is very sacred in native communities. The responsibility of healing the community can be placed on a specific bloodline or by ordained individuals. In any case not just anyone can perform these services. One most be mentally, spiritually and emotionally clean and sound to carry out these heavy duties for the village.
Another main component in Indigenous Medicine is Spirituality. Meaning a connection between the spirit realm and and the physical realm. This allows the practitioner to get a deeper in the root cause of the problems their clients might have. Many physical illnesses are a result of spiritual tears, cuts, abrasion and even curses. The ailments that are life threatening in the Western world have been solved in 2-3 sessions in Indigenous communities. This is nothing new in many indigenous villages around the world. The use of Indigenous healing modalities is not as uncommon as one may think. Many of the descendants of ancient civilizations like the Maya and Native tribes like Arawak or Taino in the Caribbean and the Gullah, Cherokee and Seminole in North America. Still practice their indigenous healing practices today. They do not get the recognition they deserve because of the propaganda of “Big Pharma” and the capitalist Western World. However these cultures have healed diseases that are known to plague majority of Americans and other “First World” societies. The best way to experience these modalities is through our Healing Retreats which allow you to get a full immersive package that includes indigenous healing sessions, healthy foods and beautiful jungle cabin acommodations.
We need indigenous medicine because, let’s be real. Western Medicine has failed us from it’s start. Now more than ever we are seeing clearly the lack of integrity in our health systems. From misdiagnosis to unnecessary surgery.. When I told a Mayan Midwife and Medicine woman about hysterectomies she looked at me as if she was seeing a martian. This was a woman that has birthed hundreds of healthy babies and healed countless illnesses in her village without cutting a single person open or using one drop of pharmaceutical products. She seemed overwhelmingly disappointed as I explained to her the state of the medical system in the states. She said that she would never dream of physically entering the body for any reason. It’s unethical and harmful, she says. I agree wholeheartedly! Just look at these stats:
Medical Errors Are The Third Leading Cause Of Death In America
Prescription Drugs Are Killing Us In Large Numbers
What will it take for the world to reconsider “modern medicine” and look to the Medicine women that carry the knowledge from ancient times?
